Viksit Bharat Youth Parliament held at ECC

District-level Viksit Bharat Youth Parliament under Phase I of the Viksit Bharat Yuva Connect Programme was conducted on March 10, 2026 at Multi-Purpose Hall, Eastern Christian College, the designated nodal institute.
The programme was organised by Eastern Christian College in collaboration with the NSS and MY Bharat under the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports.
The initiative aimed to actively involve the youth of the country in the formulation of national plans, priorities, and developmental goals. The competition was conducted under the theme ‘50 Years of Emergency: Lessons for Indian Democracy,’ reflecting on the period of the Emergency in India (1975–1977) declared under the leadership of Indira Gandhi, the then Prime Minister of India.
Delivering the welcome address, Dr. Dominic K. Khanyo, Principal of Eastern Christian College, lauded the vision of the Prime Minister and highlighted the importance of youth participation in national discourse. In his exhortation speech, Dr. Salikyu Sangtam spoke on the importance of good governance. He stressed the need to focus on the youth, the poor, and the farmers, emphasizing that the ultimate goal of Viksit Bharat is to harness India’s potential and enable the country to lead the world.
During the plenary sessions, participants delivered speeches reflecting on the history and implications of the 21-month Emergency. The speakers highlighted the importance of safeguarding democratic values and reminded the audience that democracy cannot survive in silence and that no leader stands above the Constitution. Reshangdi Jidung from SD Jain College secured the first position. Sentirenla VA Peinyu from Unity College secured the second position, while Ikeisikie Kauring from Unity College secured the third position. Kamala Devi and Nilokali, both from Eastern Christian College, secured the fourth and fifth positions respectively.
The plenary sessions were moderated by Temsutula, assistant professor, Department of Economics; Vinanto Zhimo, assistant professor, Department of English &IQAC coordinator; Keleseno Naleo, academic dean &assistant professor, department of Sociology; and Solomon Chapao, assistant professor & head, department of Political Science.
A total of 65 students from 13 colleges in Dimapur District participated in the competition. The jury comprised dignitaries from different vocations: Dr. Chiben Yanthan, assistant professor, NECU; Dr. Yelhi Vero, assistant professor, Dimapur Government College; Mikato Shohe, founder, Cafe Captain Americano; and Dr. Salikyu Sangram, associate professor, Department of Political Science.
