DMC conducts drainage inspection, cleaning drive in Dimapur

Staff ReporterDIMAPUR, MAR 13 (NPN):

Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) on Friday conducted drainage inspection and cleaning drive in various parts of Dimapur ahead of the monsoon season.
During the inspection, municipal workers cleared clogged drains and removed accumulated waste such as plastics, packaging materials and other debris that had been improperly disposed of in drainage channels. The cleaning operation was undertaken to restore proper water flow and reduce the risk of waterlogging in low-lying areas. A significant amount of waste was found blocking several sections of the drainage system.
DMC chairperson Hukheto Yepthomi said improper disposal of household and commercial waste into drains was one of the major causes of blockage. He said such practices not only obstruct drainage flow but also contribute to environmental pollution and public health risks.
DMC officials advised residents, shopkeepers and the general public to refrain from dumping garbage into drains, roadsides and other public places. Citizens were urged to maintain proper civic sense by using designated waste bins and cooperating with municipal authorities in keeping the city clean.
Hukheto said the inspection and cleaning drive reflected DMC’s commitment to improving urban sanitation and preventing monsoon-related flooding, adding that public cooperation was essential for the success of such initiatives.
