Nagaland SDG Action Awards 2025 presented

Dimapur:

Deputy chief minister T.R. Zeliang on Friday presented the Nagaland SDG Action Awards 2025 to Pinnacle Skill (Economic Sustainability), Good Samaritan Women Society (Social Development), and MOBUST Team Nagaland (YouthNet) (Environment Sustainability). Each award carried a memento, certificate and a cash prize of Rs. 50,000.
The awards were presented during the Nagaland SDG Action Awards 2025 and State-Level Consultation on SDG India Index 4.0 and NER District SDG Index 2.0, organised by the Sustainable Development Goal Coordination Centre (SDGCC), Planning & Transformation Department, at the Capital Convention Centre, Kohima.
Speaking as guest of honour, Zeliang said the platform brought together departments to reflect, recognise and set a roadmap for the common development agenda “Development for all—Leaving No One Behind.” He highlighted Nagaland’s progress, noting that Mokokchung, Kohima and Dimapur districts secured places among the top ten districts in the North Eastern Region SDG District Index 2023–24, while nine districts were placed in the ‘Front Runner’ category. He added that three districts were among the fastest movers in the region, showing maximum improvement in SDG composite scores.
While acknowledging these achievements, Zeliang stressed the need to address weaker district-level indicators and ensure timely data updation across state and national portals. He called for continued collaboration among departments, strengthened data systems and sustained commitment to achieve meaningful progress towards the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the vision of Viksit Nagaland 2047.
He also congratulated the award recipients, and remarked that they embodied the spirit of innovation and commitment driving progress. He said their work demonstrated that impactful change is possible even with limited resources, and encouraged them to continue inspiring others. Zeliang further called upon officers from the State and Districts to not let the consultation remain a mere discussion, but to translate it into actionable district-level strategies with clear timelines and measurable outcomes.
With the global 2030 deadline approaching steadily, he stressed the responsibility to accelerate implementation with urgency and coordination.
Development Commissioner, Temsunaro Aier, in her welcome address, said the government is actively aligning the Global Agenda 2030 and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) with Nagaland’s development priorities. She noted that the State-Level Consultation on the SDG India Index 4.0 and NER District SDG Index 2.0 provided valuable insights into the state’s performance, identified areas for improvement, and marked a key milestone in the roadmap toward 2030, contributing to the vision of a Viksit Nagaland by 2047.
She further highlighted that the Nagaland SDG Action Awards were instituted to recognise and felicitate communities, organisations and individuals whose initiatives addressed grassroots development challenges and contributed to the achievement of SDGs in the categories of Economic Sustainability, Social Development and Environmental Sustainability.
Urging departments and districts to improve data quality, keep portals updated and use SDG tools for planning and course correction, Aier said the SDG India Index and NER District SDG Index serve as important instruments to track progress and identify areas requiring further effort.
Regional Head, NER, UNDP, John Borgoyary, highlighted the partnership between UNDP and the Government of Nagaland since 2019 and stressed the importance of reliable data and district-level implementation of SDGs.
The consultation was attended by administrative and departmental heads, SDG nodal officers, deputy commissioners and representatives from all 17 districts, along with minister of Environment, Forest & Climate Change & Village Guards, C.L. John, and Dr. Tseilhoutuo Rhutso MLA.
