1 held for stealing railings from synthetic track at MDSC

Staff ReporterDIMAPUR, MAR 13 (NPN):

Police have arrested a person for allegedly stealing aluminium railings from the synthetic running track at the Multi-Disciplinary Sports Complex (MDSC) following a complaint lodged by members of the Nagaland Running Club.
Club members said the incident came to light on March 12 evening when regular runners noticed that several aluminium railings along the track were missing. Concerned over the damage to the public sports facility, the club lodged an FIR at West Police Station.
Police subsequently launched an investigation and arrested the accused, identified as Isazul (22), who reportedly has no permanent residence.
Nagaland Running Club member Tiaba Pongena said the complaint was filed out of civic responsibility after runners discovered the missing railings during their evening jog.
Club members appreciated the prompt action taken by the police in apprehending the suspect. They also highlighted the importance of safeguarding the synthetic track, which has become a popular recreational and fitness facility attracting people of all age groups.
Another club member, Bendangsunep, said the facility had greatly benefited the community as it provided a safer space for running compared to roads.
However, members raised concerns over security at the complex and suggested deploying security personnel and installing floodlights to prevent theft and vandalism.
The 400-metre synthetic track at the complex was sanctioned in 2017 at a cost of around Rs 7 crore under the Khelo India scheme and was completed in 2025 after delays.
