The Minority Students Union (MSU) of Dimapur Government College (DGC) hosted its 6th annual fresher’s event at the college auditorium, where Sanjita Sinha and Siddhant Bor Gohain were crowned Miss and Mr Freshers respectively. The celebration welcomed newly admitted students with cultural performances, talent showcases and motivational addresses from distinguished guests.
The event also recognized individual talents, with Sushma Pashi winning the subtitle of Miss Talent and Anurag Mondal being adjudged Mr Perfect. The programme began with a welcome address by MSU DGC president Sumith Sengyungsa, who emphasized unity, respect and cooperation among students from diverse communities.
Several prominent personalities graced the occasion. Dayashankar Pandey of Hatokhajan High School, Assam attended as the special guest, while managing director of NITI Academy, Ajay Sethi and administrator of St. Mary Higher Secondary School, Pratik Dutta, were present as guests of honour. Member of the Dimapur Municipal Council, Mahesh Agarwal, also joined the gathering. Presidents of the Marwari Samaj, Meetei Samaj, and Odia Samaj expressed their support as invited guests.
The highlight of the programme was the keynote address by chairman of the Linguistic Minority Forum of Nagaland and president of the Minority Wing of the Naga People’s Front, Bishnu Bhattacharjee. Bhattacharjee urged students to remain focused on academics while also engaging in skill development, sports and music to become well-rounded individuals. He praised chief minister Dr. Neiphiu Rio and Higher Education Minister Imna Along for their efforts in promoting education, skill development and youth opportunities across Nagaland.
Bhattacharjee further emphasized the importance of unity and inclusiveness, encouraging students to embrace diversity and work together for peaceful coexistence. Other guests also shared words of encouragement, urging students to pursue their dreams with dedication and resilience.
Former MSU DGC president Biju Bhagat delivered a short speech recalling his experiences and motivating students to actively participate in both academic and cultural activities. Representing the freshers, Ajit Sukla Baidya expressed gratitude to seniors and the union for organizing a memorable welcome.
The evening featured vibrant cultural performances and talent segments, showcasing the creativity and enthusiasm of the student community.
