The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Sunday announced the schedule for the by-election to 28-Koridang Assembly Constituency, with polling slated for April 9 and counting of votes on May 4.
The announcement was made by Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar while unveiling the schedule for Assembly elections in Assam, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and West Bengal, along with the Union Territory of Puducherry. The ECI also announced by-polls for eight Assembly seats across several states, including Nagaland, Goa, Gujarat, Karnataka, Maharashtra and Tripura.
The by-election to the 28-Koridang Assembly constituency was necessitated following the demise of veteran politician and BJP legislator Imkong L. Imchen on November 11, 2025.
According to the ECI schedule, the last date for filing nominations is March 23, scrutiny of nominations will be held on March 24 and the last date for withdrawal of candidature is March 26.
MCC comes into force: Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner & District Election Officer, Mokokchung, Ajit Kumar Verma informed that following the announcement of the by-election, the Model Code of Conduct has come into force with immediate effect throughout Mokokchung district.
In an order, DC stated that all political activities including rallies, public meetings and processions must strictly follow guidelines prescribed under MCC. Any political gathering, procession or meeting must obtain prior permission from the competent authority.
DC further stated that the use of government machinery, resources and facilities for campaigning or any other political purpose by political parties or candidates would be strictly prohibited.
DC also said all other provisions of the MCC issued by ECI from time to time would be enforced immediately across the district.
All political parties, intending candidates of 28-Koridang AC, government departments, institutions, private organisations and public have been directed to ensure strict compliance with the provisions of the MCC and extend cooperation to the district election machinery to ensure the by-election is conducted in a free, fair and peaceful manner.
The order cautioned that any violation would be dealt with strictly in accordance with the relevant provisions of election laws.
