48-hour power outage hits Wokha, Tseminyu

CorrespondentWOKHA, MAR 15 (NPN):

Wokha and Tseminyu districts have been experiencing a power blackout for over 48 hours since March 13 following a technical fault at the Sanis Transmission Sub-Station.
Officials from the Power department said the outage was caused by a mechanical failure of the DC battery charger at the sub-station. A technical team from Kohima has been deployed and is currently working to restore the power supply.
Officials further informed that the department had earlier arranged a double-feeder transmission system for Wokha to ensure an alternative power source during emergencies. However, the backup line from Kohima could not be utilised after the main transmission line near a stone crushing quarry at Longsa village was damaged when mud was reportedly dumped in the area due to alleged public negligence.
Due to the damage, the Kohima line cannot be used as an alternative source of power.
Meanwhile, the technical team has been working to repair and reinstall the line, and officials expressed hope that power supply would likely be restored.
The prolonged outage has caused inconvenience to residents, particularly students appearing for board examinations, while business activities and daily routines have also been affected due to the lack of electricity.
