ASHAs trained on Shishu Maapan App

The Home-Based Newborn Care (HBNC) programme under the Department of Health & Family Welfare, Nagaland, continues to strengthen newborn health through home visits by Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHAs) until a child reaches 42 days of age.
To improve accuracy in measuring newborn growth, the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, in partnership with Wadhwani AI, has launched the Shishu Maapan App. As part of a pilot project in Nagaland, 50 ASHAs from Dimapur, Niuland and Chümoukedima districts were trained on March 12 to use the app during HBNC visits. The project aims to record measurements of 1,000 newborns.
For this purpose, ASHAs were provided with weighing machines, head-circumference tapes, rulers and infantometers. Field testing of the app was conducted in Dhansiripar and Chümoukedima.
Resource persons included Pamrichan Ragui, State Lead, Nagaland Wadhwani AI; Anima Rawat, Senior AI Deployment Specialist; and Athar Khan, Product Analyst, Newborn Anthropometry. Dr. Kikameren Longkumer, State Programme Officer, NHM Nagaland, encouraged ASHAs to utilize the app effectively to make HBNC visits more productive.
