State Agricultural Management and Extension Training Institute (SAMETI) organised a four-day training programme on “Professional Skills for Extension Officers/Functionaries” from March 10 to 13 at IETC.
In his inaugural address, director SAMETI and principal IETC, Bodevi Shuya, stressed the importance of effective technology dissemination through soft skills to reach grassroots targets. He said extension officers must acquire professional skills alongside technical expertise. Resource persons included Dr. Rajumoni Bordoloi, director EEI NER Guwahati; Dr. S Boruah, Faculty EEI NER Guwahati; Dr. Saurabh Sharma, Associate Professor, Agri Extension Dept, SAS, NU Medziphema; Marneni Divya Sree, SMS KVK Dimapur; and Dr. Deepa Thangjam, Assistant Professor, Dept. of RD SAS, NU.
Topics covered ranged from orientation on professional skills, participatory extension approaches, delegation, time and team management, social media use, presentation skills, training methodology, liaisoning with stakeholders, and documentation/reporting. Participants also undertook a field visit to CIH and its farm.
The inaugural programme was chaired by SAMETI Deputy Project Director, Akam Zeliang, while the valedictory session was chaired by Dr. S. Boruah.
The valedictory address was delivered by Dr. Rajumoni Bordoloi, and the vote of thanks was pronounced by SAMETI deputy project director, Tiajungla Longchar. Certificates were distributed to participants at the conclusion.
A total of 33 officers attended, including 20 from the Agriculture Department, three each from Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Sciences, Soil & Water Conservation, and Horticulture, and two each from Land Resources Development and Fisheries.
