The Peren District Football League (PDFL) 3.0 witnessed thrilling action at the Astro Turf Ground, Jalukie Town on Wednesday as Mbaupunggwa FC climbed to fourth place and defending champions Lekie Mtei FC reclaimed second spot with convincing victories.
In the opening clash, Mbaupunggwa FC overcame Kingdom Stewards in a tense battle for knockout qualification. Yirampheu opened the scoring in the 7th minute after a goalkeeping error, but Kingdom Stewards pressed hard for an equaliser, only to be let down by poor finishing. The second half saw Haominlal level the score on 64 minutes, again capitalising on a goalkeeper’s mistake. Mbaupunggwa responded strongly, with Nrakhak restoring the lead in the 71st minute and Kinthuilung sealing the win in the 81st. Chingthaipou of Mbaupunggwa FC was named man of the match.
The second match witnessed defending champions Lekie Mtei FC against Football Plus Academy. Lekie Mtei struck early through Chidiheu in the 4th minute, before Lungneuying doubled the lead on 44 minutes. Puiheilung added a third in stoppage time before the break. In the second half, Khiuwangbo converted a penalty in the 59th minute, while Football Plus Academy pulled one back through Perampauying from the spot on 67 minutes. However, Chidiheu’s second goal in the 78th minute sealed a dominant 5–1 win. Khiuwangbo, instrumental with a goal and two assists, was awarded man of the match.
With these results, Mbaupunggwa FC strengthened their push for the knockouts, while Lekie Mtei FC reaffirmed their title credentials by reclaiming second place in the standings.
