The Election General Observer for the forthcoming bye election to 28 Koridang Assembly Constituency, Mokokchung district, Dr. Neeraj Shukla, IAS had a meeting with the district administrative officer, returning officer, asst returning officer, sector magistrates, sector commanders, police officials, magistrates of all flying squad team, asst expenditure observer & accounting team, control room nodal officer, media monitoring team, video surveillance team and video viewing team at the Conference Hall, Deputy Commissioner’s Office, Mokokchung on March 19.
According to DIPR report, during the meeting, the General Observer reviewed the overall scenario and the preparations for the forthcoming bye election. While the Deputy Commissioner & District Election Officer Mokokchung, Ajit Kumar Verma, gave a brief description of electioneering machinery set up in the district for smooth conduct of the election. Later, Sr. SP, Vesupra Kezo (NPS) also briefed the observer on the security set up for the election in the district.
Dc & Deo, Mokokchung informs: The Deputy Commissioner & District Election Officer, Mokokchung, Ajit Kumar Verma, has informed all concern that the Election Commission of India has appointed the following Observers for the Bye- Election to 28-Koridang Assembly Constituency to ensure smooth conduct of the Bye-Election in free, fair, and peaceful manner.
Dr. Niraj Shukla, General Observer (contact number- 9862966114) and D. Sreedhar Reddy, IRS, Expenditure Observer (contact number 9612797996).
The Observers will be available for interaction with political parties, contesting candidates and public in general for redressal of grievances, clarification of doubts and for lodging complaints, if any, from 10:00 a.m to 11:00 a.m at the Commissioner’s guest house.
Screening Committee to examine the proposal related to MCC constituted: The Chief Electoral Officer, Nagaland has informed that in pursuance of the Election Commission of India (ECI)’s letter, a Screening Committee to examine the proposal related to Model Code of conduct (MCC), is constituted. The Committee shall be chaired by the Chief Secretary, Nagaland and shall have the following composition; the chief secretary, government of Nagaland as chairman, the Principal secretary, department of home as member- secretary and administrative head of department submitting as member.
The Screening Committee shall examine each proposal related to MCC in the light of the ECI’s existing instruction/clarification available in the form of Manual on Model Code of Conduct/Compendium of Instructions on MCC/Instructions available on the ECI website.
It shall submit the proposals cleared along with full details of the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Nagaland. A note on urgency i.e, why the proposal cannot wait till completion of Poll/Election, shall also be attached.
Departments are advised not to forward any reference directly to the ECI. Further, they shall not send original file to the CEO’s office. Only a self-contained reference of approved proposals shall be sent. The CEO shall forward to the ECI, only such proposal(s) that are cleared by Screening Committee, along with his comments.
