The ongoing Peren District Football League (PDFL) 3.0 at Astro Turf Ground, Jalukie Town on Friday produced high drama as defending champions Lekie Mtei FC secured their place in the final, while Friends of Society edged past Poilwa FC in a tense eliminator to set up a qualifier clash with Nchangram Lun FC.
In the qualifier between Nchangram Lun FC and Lekie Mtei FC, both sides began cautiously, denying each other clear chances with disciplined defending and sharp goalkeeping. Nchangram Lun FC struck first in the 15th minute when Maisithui’s short corner was headed home by Silubui. The lead was short-lived, however, as Lekie Mtei’s Khiuwangbo equalised with a stunning free kick just four minutes later.
Lekie Mtei then took control of the game, with Chidiheu scoring twice in quick succession (31’ and 33’), the second assisted by Nsamlungbe. Nchangram Lun attempted a comeback through Lamsanggin’s brilliant long-range effort in the 52nd minute, but Khiuwangbo’s penalty conversion in the 63rd sealed the champions’ victory. Nsamlungbe of Lekie Mtei FC was named Man of the Match for his influential performance.
In the eliminator between Poilwa FC and Friends of Society, the match was a battle of nerves as both teams showcased quality football with precise passing, strong tackles and relentless attacking play. Despite numerous attempts, neither side could break the deadlock in regulation time or extra time, thanks to outstanding goalkeeping on both ends.
The contest was finally decided via a penalty shootout, where Friends of Society triumphed 5–4. Lungkhun and Zumzum received yellow cards for misconduct during the heated encounter. Peisuidibe of Friends of Society was awarded Man of the Match for his commanding display.
With Lekie Mtei FC already through to the final, the spotlight now shifts to Saturday’s qualifier between Nchangram Lun FC and Friends of Society at 2 pm, where the winner will earn the right to challenge the reigning champions for the PDFL 3.0 crown.
