A state-of-the-art facility, the Jayant Skill Centre, was inaugurated on March 20 at Choklangan village by Dr. Nicky Kire, former MLA, in the presence of members of the Village Town Council. The programme marked the second major initiative of the Miraculum Society Nagaland, following the success of its educational centre at Noklak.
The Jayant Skill Centre is envisioned as a multi-purpose hub for skill development, production, and marketing. It aims to foster market linkages, create sustainable livelihood opportunities, and promote indigenous craftsmanship by harnessing local resources.
Speaking at the event, Vikuonuo Sachu, former Miss Nagaland and founder of Miraculum Society, highlighted the natural abundance of Choklangan, noting its rich resources such as honey, fertile soil, water, vegetables, and herbs. “Our centre is meant for everyone. We want to take small steps in channelising local products and showcasing the work of our women,” she said, noting that the initiative reflects their motto, “A little bit of everything.”
The organisers expressed gratitude to the Choklangan Village Council and community for their support, with special appreciation extended to Naila for her guidance in establishing the centre.
The facility will be managed by the EHLON-NIU Group, a women’s collective known for expertise in traditional thread-making and weaving, producing bags, shawls, and garments. The inaugural programme was chaired by Chenogi Semp, with the welcome address delivered by M. Hunung. The establishment of the Jayant Skill Centre is expected to open new avenues for local artisans and contribute to sustainable development in the region.
