Seven candidates have submitted their nomination papers for the by-election to the 28 Koridang Assembly Constituency (ST), scheduled to be held on April 9, 2026. It may be mentioned that BJP candidate Daochier I Imchen filed his nomination on Friday.
The remaining six candidates who filed their papers on Monday included I Abenjang from the National People’s Party (NPP), Imtiwapang (Independent), Maj. Toshikaba (Retd) (Independent), Imchatoba Imchen (Independent), Wapangmeren (Independent) and T. Chalokumba from the Indian National Congress (INC). The by-poll was necessitated following the demise of sitting BJP MLA Imkong L Imchen in November last year, which rendered the seat vacant.
With seven contenders in the fray, the contest promises to be multi-cornered.
The next two weeks leading up to the polling day on April 9 are expected to witness vigorous campaigning, political manoeuvring, and heavy politicking.
