S Supongmeren Jamir on foothills road issue

DIMAPUR, MAR 25

Nagaland’s Lok Sabha MP, S Supongmeren Jamir, has reacted to the social media posts questioning no objection certificate (NOC) issued by 14 tribal Hohos for the Foothills Road project with demands that it be declared null and void.
MP also dubbed as “totally baseless and misleading” the claim that fully damaged property compensation would be provided after its approval from the Ministry of Transport and Highways.
MP clarified that the proposed Foothills Road, envisaged as a Trans-Nagaland Highway, was a crucial infrastructure project aimed at improving connectivity and boosting economic growth across the state.
Jamir pointed out that the state government has already submitted detailed project reports (DPRs) to the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways for approval to upgrade the Foothills Road into a National Highway at an estimated cost of approximately Rs.3,284 crore.
In this regard, MP urged the state government and responsible departments to take proactive measures to restore the confidence of all stakeholders, including the Nagaland Foothills Road Coordinating Committee (NFHRCC), tribal Hohos, and affected landowners.
Jamir stressed the need to engage in constructive dialogue and build consensus to address concerns amicably.
He also emphasised on bridging the gap between the state government, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, and the landowners for smooth implementation of the project.
“A balanced and inclusive approach will ensure that the larger interest of the citizens is upheld while respecting the rights and concerns of all involved,” Jamir added.
