Strict security measures for Koridang by-poll

Nagaland Police has announced security measures for the upcoming bye-election to 28 Koridang Assembly Constituency under Mokokchung district.
In a press release issued by PHQ, the police informed that as per the Election Commission of India (ECI), the by-poll would be held on April 9, 2026, while counting of votes would take place on May 4, 2026. The Office of the chairman, Ceasefire Monitoring Group (CFMG)/Ceasefire Supervisory Board (CFSB), has issued security instructions in connection with the election, emphasising that all factions of the NSCN must adhere to the objective of maintaining peace during the poll period.
Accordingly, a strict directive has been issued banning the carriage of weapons of any kind within Mokokchung district.
The ban has come into effect from March 24, 2026 and will remain in force until further notice. Authorities stated that a decision on lifting the ban would be taken after May 4, based on the prevailing security situation.
The directive applies to all cadres, including holders of special Ceasefire Identity Cards.
Nagaland Police has urged all stakeholders and the general public to cooperate in ensuring peaceful and smooth conduct of the bye-election.
