Campaigning for the by-election to 28 Koridang A/C gathered momentum with Independent candidate Imtiwapang declaring his candidature at Kinunger village on Wednesday.
Addressing the gathering, Imtiwapang said his campaign theme was “Change Begins With Us,” stressing that meaningful change must come from within through the right mindset, unity and collective effort.
He urged the people to commit themselves to change in their thinking, work and unity if they truly desired progress.
He said he was not new to public service, having served as president of OKM, executive member of AKM, founding member of Mokokchung Town Youth Organisation, besides serving in various social organisations and as a government servant. He said he had always strived to contribute towards the uplift of the people and sought to continue that journey with greater responsibility.
Outlining his vision, he said he aimed to bring development to every village, strengthen farmers’ livelihoods, create opportunities for youth and ensure inclusive growth. He expressed his desire to build a united constituency that moves forward beyond differences.
He said priority would be given to improving roads and connectivity, promoting agriculture, horticulture, piggery and other income-generating activities, and supporting youth through skill development, sports and entrepreneurship. He also emphasised improving education through better infrastructure and access to scholarships, and strengthening primary healthcare services.
Further, he assured transparent and accountable use of development funds and said he would be a strong voice for the constituency to secure its rightful share of development.
Meanwhile, several individuals spoke at the programme. The Kinunger Village Council, in its address, said the village gates were open to all candidates but cautioned against violation of established rules during campaigning, warning of penalties for defaulters.
