NCSU opposes new contractor registration rules

The Nagaland Contractors & Suppliers Union (NCSU) held its general body meeting on March 24 at its head office in Kohima, continuing its earlier representation on contractor-related issues.
In a press statement issued by NCSU president Pele Khezhie and general secretary John Kath, the union stated that after thorough examination and deliberation, it found the newly introduced rules for registration of various categories of contractors under the State Government to be impractical. According to the union, the criteria outlined in the new rules are “completely impossible” and could potentially harm the careers of contractors across the state.
The NCSU further asserted that it cannot accept the new rules unless they are finalized in consultation with its officials, with point-by-point discussions. It also expressed concern that the rules are “anti-poor” and disadvantage unemployed youth aspiring to register as new contractors.
In this regard, the union has strongly urged the concerned authority to review the new rules within 30 days from the date of submission of its memorandum. Failing this, the NCSU warned that it may be compelled to resort to agitation in due course.
