US signals limited Iran engagement, plans early exit

US Vice President JD Vance on Saturday signalled that the United States does not intend to remain engaged in Iran for the long term, stating that the administration aims to complete its “business” and exit soon.
In an interview, Vance said Washington was not looking at a prolonged timeline and would continue operations only for a short period to avoid future escalation. He said the approach was intended to prevent the need for repeated military action and a long-term commitment. He also expressed hope that fuel prices would stabilise once the situation eases. His remarks followed US President Donald Trump extending a pause on possible strikes against Iran’s energy infrastructure by 10 days until April 6, citing ongoing negotiations. Meanwhile, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian warned neighbouring countries against allowing attacks from their territory, saying Iran would retaliate strongly if targeted.
