The St. Joseph University (SJU) Varsity Sports Week 2026 concluded with a vibrant valedictory programme held on March 27 at the University Ground. The three-day sporting extravaganza, organized from March 25 to 27 under the theme “Ignite the Athlete Within”, witnessed enthusiastic participation, commendable sportsmanship, and a strong sense of unity among students.
The Sports Week featured a wide range of events including Football, Basketball, Volleyball, Kho Kho, Kabaddi, and Cricket.
Adding variety were special competitions such as the Fittest Josephite, Penalty Shootout, Obstacle Race, Tug of War, and Talent Show. Track and field events like the 100m, 200m, and 800m races, Long Jump, High Jump, Shot Put, and Rally Race showcased athletic excellence, while indoor and strength-based contests including Table Tennis, Chess, Arm Wrestling, and the traditional Naga Wrestling (Kene) drew enthusiastic crowds.
Fun-filled activities such as Crab Walking Race, Fill the Brick Challenge, and Bread Eating Contest added a lively dimension to the programme.
A major highlight was the exhibition football match between SJUSC and the SJU Faculty, which fostered camaraderie and strengthened bonds between students and teachers.
The valedictory programme featured the presentation of the annual sports report, followed by prize distribution and recognition of participants, organizers, and volunteers.
Group 6 – Liverpool (Departments of Physical Education & Sports, Sociology, Social Work, Botany, and Chemistry) emerged as the overall champion of the sports week. The best discipline trophy was awarded to Real Madrid Team (Department of Political Science) for exemplary conduct, while the best player trophy was conferred upon Viketo Zhimo of the Liverpool team for his outstanding performance.
