Centre, State push convergence to boost MSME growth in Nagaland

In a concerted push to strengthen the MSME sector as a key driver of economic growth, the Centre and Nagaland government on Monday emphasised convergence, coordination and collaborative implementation of schemes to maximise benefits for entrepreneurs and stakeholders.
According to DIPR, a high-level meeting on “MSME as Engines of Growth” was held at the Nagaland Civil Secretariat, bringing together officials from the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME), Government of India, and multiple agri and allied departments of the State.
Chairing the meeting, additional chief secretary and Agriculture Production Commissioner V. Shashank Shekhar said the initiative aimed to bring all departments onto a common platform to enhance synergy between the Centre and State. He stressed that convergence and collective efforts were essential for effective implementation of developmental programmes and for ensuring that benefits reach the grassroots.
Secretary, Ministry of MSME, S.C.L. Das, underlined the need for stronger coordination and collaboration to accelerate MSME growth in Nagaland. He clarified that the meeting was not a review exercise but a platform for dialogue and partnership to align central support with the State’s development vision.
Highlighting the cross-sectoral nature of MSMEs, Das said the sector spans industries such as textiles, food processing, steel, electronics and more, contributing significantly to the national economy. He stressed that breaking departmental silos and leveraging schemes across ministries through convergence was critical to maximising impact.
In his concluding remarks, Das assured that concerns raised would be addressed and called for regular follow-up meetings to sustain momentum.
He emphasised that actionable decisions would be implemented promptly, while bottlenecks would be resolved through coordinated efforts.
Joint secretary, MSME, Mercy Epao, presented the Ministry’s vision of fostering globally competitive and sustainable MSMEs. She highlighted key enablers including formalisation, improved access to credit, digitisation, technology adoption, infrastructural support and skill development.
She elaborated on flagship schemes such as PM Vishwakarma, Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP), Credit Guarantee Scheme, Self-Reliant India (SRI) Fund, Micro and Small Enterprises Cluster Development Programme (MSE-CDP), National SC-ST Hub and Assistance to Training Institutions. On women entrepreneurship, she highlighted the Yashasvini initiative aimed at promoting women-led enterprises and enhancing their participation in public procurement.
Epao said MSMEs would play a pivotal role in achieving the goals of Viksit Bharat 2047 by boosting exports, strengthening rural industries and creating employment opportunities.
Officials from departments including Industries & Commerce, Tourism, Horticulture, Fisheries, Rural Development, Finance, IT&C, Land Resources, Women Development, Forest, Nagaland Bamboo Mission, Employment & Skill Development, Youth Resources & Sports and Sericulture presented updates on ongoing activities, while highlighting challenges related to marketing, exports and scaling up production.
