NSO seeks probe into Hongbei ambush, urges unity

Highlighting the gravity of the incident and its implications for the Naga community, the Naga Students Organization (NSO) has strongly condemned the ambush at Hongbei village junction under Ukhrul district on March 28 in which four personnel of the Naga Army under the Eastern Flank command were killed.
NSO vice president T Bamang and general secretary P. Mankai Konyak termed the incident as tragic and alarming, especially at a time when the Naga people are facing challenges from multiple fronts. It stressed that unity, solidarity and a collective commitment to safeguard Naga rights and identity were crucial, warning that internal violence would only weaken the shared cause.
NSO called for a thorough and transparent inquiry into the incident, urging that the motives behind the attack be clearly established and justice delivered for the victims and their families.
Reaffirming its long-standing stand for peace, reconciliation and unity among various NSCN/GPRN groups, the organisation said internal divisions remained the most serious threat to the Naga people. It noted that it had consistently engaged with stakeholders, including visits to Hebron, Eastern Flank camps and other leadership, to convey the aspirations of the youth for a united and purposeful movement. In view of the incident, NSO appealed to United Naga Council and Tangkhul Naga Long to intervene immediately and facilitate a peaceful and just resolution in accordance with established laws and Naga customary practices.
LNC-M expresses anguish: Liangmai Naga Council, Manipur (LNC-M) has expressed deep sorrow and anguish over the recent incident at Hongbei village that resulted in the death of four “Naga brothers”.
According to Newmai News, the council said the tragic loss had deeply pained the community and conveyed solidarity with the bereaved families during this difficult time.
