Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) has granted a one-month extension for the use of its existing dumping site following requests from various stakeholders, in partial modification of its earlier decision to discontinue dumping from March 30.
DMC chief executive officer (CEO) Thungchanbemo Tungoe informed that the existing dumping site could now be utilized up to April 30. CEO said that extension was granted on a one-time basis after receiving special requests from lessees (lease holders), permit holders, contractors, commercial establishments, institutions, and bulk waste generators.
However, DMC has laid down strict conditions for the continued use of the site: 1. This extension is purely temporary and exceptional, granted on humanitarian and administrative grounds, and shall not be treated as a matter of right or precedent.
- Permission shall remain revocable at any time without prior notice, in public interest or administrative exigency
- All users shall ensure strict adherence to segregation norms and scientific disposal practices in accordance with Solid Waste Management Rules, 2026 and applicable municipal guidelines.
- No dumping at unauthorized locations within the jurisdiction of DMC shall be permitted under any circumstances.
- Any violation of the above directions shall attract penal action, including imposition of fines, cancellation of lease/permit, and other actions as per relevant provisions of the Nagaland Municipal Act, 2023 and applicable rules.
- All stakeholders are advised to make necessary alternative arrangements for waste management within extended period, as no further extension shall be granted under any circumstances.
DMC has sought cooperation of all stakeholders in ensuring public health, environmental protection, and maintenance of cleanliness within Dimapur.
