US President Donald Trump has said countries that did not support the United States in strikes against Iran should “go get your own oil”, amid escalating tensions in West Asia.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump criticised allies that “refused to get involved” in the offensive against Iran, suggesting they either purchase oil from the US or secure it themselves through the Strait of Hormuz. He said such countries must learn to “fight” for themselves, adding that the US would not continue to assist them.
Trump specifically referred to countries facing jet fuel shortages due to disruptions in the Strait, stating that the US has sufficient supply while urging others to act independently. He also claimed that Iran had been “essentially decimated” and that the “hard part” of the conflict was over.
More than a month after initial strikes by the US and Israel, Iran continues to maintain control over the Strait of Hormuz. The disruption has driven up global oil prices, shaken stock markets and increased the cost of essential goods.
Trump also warned that if a ceasefire is not reached soon and the Strait is not reopened, the US could expand its military operations, including possible strikes on Iran’s Kharg Island oil export hub and desalination facilities.
Meanwhile, Gulf allies affected by the conflict have reportedly urged Washington to continue military action until Iran’s capabilities are weakened.
Responding to the developments, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said Tehran’s operations were directed only at US forces in the region, asserting that Iran’s actions were aimed at “enemy aggressors” and not civilians.
