Department of Employment, Skill Development & Entrepreneurship on March 30 launched a week-long steel fabrication training programme under the “PACES – Providing Access to Core Employability Skills” initiative at the Community Hall, Wokha Village.
The programme aims to equip local youth with practical, income-generating skills to promote self-employment and small-scale enterprise. A total of 25 trainees from Humtso, Elumyo and Wokha Village have been selected for the first batch. The training will be conducted over seven days, comprising 50 hours of hands-on instruction.
Speaking at the inaugural, SDO (Civil), Wokha, Echungbemo Erui underscored the importance of skill-based livelihoods in the current employment landscape, noting that initiatives like PACES create grassroots opportunities for sustainable careers.
District Employment Officer, Wokha, Ekonthung Ezung, encouraged trainees to actively engage, highlighting steel fabrication as a viable trade amid ongoing infrastructure development.
The programme was chaired by N. Chipenthung Kikon, president of Wokha Village Students’ Union, with invocation by Chibenthung Humtsoe, associate pastor of Wokha Village Baptist Church. Mhonkhao Murry, head GB of Wokha Village, delivered the welcome address, while representatives from Zynorique Initiative Society (ZIS), the training partner, presented the keynote address emphasizing the growing demand for fabrication skills in construction and local manufacturing sectors.
