Food safety awareness camp held in Zunheboto

The Food Safety Administration, Zunheboto under Mokokchung Zone conducted an awareness camp on safe and fortified food, repurposing used cooking oil, good manufacturing practices, and sensitization of Food Business Operators (FBOs) on March 30 at the CMO Conference Hall, Zunheboto.
Participants included wholesalers, retailers, restaurants, hotels, manufacturers, Anganwadi staff, and SHGs. Food Safety Administration, Mokokchung Zone, designated officer, Samuel Zehol, highlighted the responsibilities of FBOs regarding FSSAI registration and licensing, along with mandatory compliance on hygiene, sanitation, and medical fitness certificates for employees at the manufacturing level. He emphasized on the importance of fortified food for improving and ensuring public health. Fortification is safe, cost effective way to improve nutrition without changing eating habits. Repurpose used cooking oil is an initiative is taken up by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India. He emphasized the hazard of re using cooking oil multiple times which can produce harmful chemicals that may lead to serious health problems.
The Food Safety on Wheels team, Mokokchung, also conducted a demonstration on detecting common adulterants in food items for the participants.
