K.Therie resigns from Congress party

In a significant political development, former NPCC president K. Therie has resigned from the party, accusing the AICC of violating a key 10-point agreement.
In his resignation letter addressed to the AICC president, Therie recalled that Nagaland became the 16th state of the Indian Union in 1960 under a 16-point pact, later enshrined in Article 371A. He said the NPCC’s founding fathers joined the Congress based on a 10-point modalities agreement, which guaranteed Nagaland’s supremacy over its own affairs-”regional in content, national in outlook.”
Citing violations of that spirit, Therie referred to a letter he had sent to the AICC president on January 31, 2026, objecting to the Sangathan Srijan Abhiyan (Organisation Reorganisation Campaign) issued on January 24, 2026, by AICC General Secretary (Organisation) K.C. Venugopal.
Therie alleged that the AICC ignored the letter and on March 30, 2026, appointed DCC presidents, overruling constitutionally elected office bearers.
He also pointed to the removal of six of the 12 AICC members allotted to NPCC since 1978, despite them being duly elected in 2022.
In another charge, Therie alleged a “sinister plan” to oust Dr. Bobby Pannikar, former NPCC treasurer, for refusing to sign a blank election expenditure statement in 2023. He claimed AICC in-charges were found guilty of embezzling election funds, yet the party protected the culprits and punished the honest.
Therie reiterated that the above construed a “breach of trust” on the 10-point modalities signed between NPCC and AICC.
