In Nagaland respect is not just a value it is a way of life. We are raised to honor our parents to listen to them and to carry their sacrifices in our hearts. Every child knows what it means to see their parents struggle silently so that their future can be better. That kind of love deserves respect not rebellion.
But today something powerful is happening across our homes. Board exams are over. Silence has replaced the noise of preparation and now a different kind of pressure begins. The question is no longer about marks it is about life.
What next
For many students this question does not feel like a choice. It feels like a decision already made. Science commerce arts government job doctor engineer teacher. Paths that are considered safe respected and secure. Paths that parents believe will protect their children from the hardships they themselves faced.
And we understand that fear. It comes from love. It comes from years of sacrifice and uncertainty. Parents are not trying to control their children they are trying to protect them.
But protection without understanding can become pressure.
There are students right now sitting quietly in their homes afraid to speak. Not because they do not respect their parents but because they respect them so much that they are willing to bury their own dreams. They smile and nod but inside they are breaking. They agree to a future they do not believe in. They choose a path they do not love.
And that is where we must pause as a society.
Respect does not mean silence. Respect does not mean surrendering your identity. Respect does not mean living someone else’s dream while your own slowly dies.
True respect is deeper. It is the courage to listen and the courage to speak. It is the strength to understand your parents’ fears and still stand firm in your purpose without raising your voice or losing your values.
Because one day the life you choose will be yours to carry. The success will be yours to celebrate but the regret will also be yours to endure. Nagaland is full of talent. Young people with creativity vision and courage. Artists thinkers entrepreneurs leaders voices that can change not just our state but the world. But too often these voices are silenced not by lack of ability but by fear of disappointing those they love the most.
We cannot build a strong future by forcing our youth into lives they do not believe in.
To every student standing at this crossroads this is your moment. Not to fight your parents but to show them who you truly are. Sit with them speak with honesty explain your dreams not with emotion alone but with clarity and commitment. Let them see that your choice is not confusion but conviction.
And to every parent this is also your moment. Your children are not rejecting your guidance they are asking for your understanding. The world they are stepping into is not the same world you grew up in. Opportunities have changed paths have expanded and success no longer follows only one direction.
Trust them. Guide them but do not silence them.
Because the greatest success is not when a child becomes what the world expects but when they become who they were meant to be.
Nagaland stands at a powerful turning point. A generation ready to rise not in rebellion but in purpose. A generation that respects its roots but refuses to let fear decide its future.
Let us not raise children who are only obedient. Let us raise young people who are courageous responsible and alive with purpose.
Because a respectful child who dares to follow their calling is not a failure of tradition. They are its greatest evolution.
