Training for Sümi language teachers concludes

The two batches of the four-day “Sütsa Shikükami Ghenguno Atsala Bidi Shiküka Hila Qokiphe” (Pedagogical training programme for Sümi language teachers), organised by the Academic Council of the Sümi Literature Board concluded on April 2. The programme had commenced on March 25.
Hosted at Livingstone Foundation International, Dimapur, the training was primarily organised for Sümi language teachers in view of the introduction of a new syllabus across seven Sütsa Academies under the Sümi Literature Board.
In addition, Sümi language teachers from government and private schools along with Diploma in Sütsa (Diploma in Sümi Language) holders who recently qualified the Sütsa Proficiency Test (SPT), also participated in the programme.
Each batch comprised 45 participants. The training was conducted in two batches to ensure effectiveness and provide hands-on pedagogical experience.
The programme aimed to equip teachers with essential pedagogical skills, linguistic knowledge, and cultural insights necessary for effective teaching of the Sütsa curriculum. It brought together experienced scholars, language experts, educators, and traditional knowledge keepers who provided comprehensive inputs on language teaching methodologies, indigenous knowledge systems, cultural traditions, and research skills relevant to Sümi studies.
Through a series of lectures, discussions, and practical sessions, participants gained deeper insights into the structure of the Sümi language, oral traditions, migration histories, customary institutions, and the cultural heritage of the Sümi people.
The Academic Council of the Sümi Literature Board expressed gratitude to all resource persons for their contributions to the success of the programme. It also acknowledged the support of Dr. Andrew Ahoto Sema and his family for hosting the eight-day programme, and for his exhortation to participants during the inaugural session.
