The 10th edition of the Yachem Students’ Union (YSU) Football Tournament concluded with Mokho Young Club of Yachem lifting the championship title, while Rising Club of Yachem finished as runners-up.
Speaking as special guest, Nyulen A. Phom, assistant professor at Yingli Government College, Longleng, highlighted the growing interest in sports, noting that unlike earlier times when excellence was confined to academics, sports today has become mainstream, offering fortune and fame to outstanding players. She encouraged the youth to strive for perfection in all pursuits and to redefine the community’s spirit by aiming for greater heights rather than relying on past glories.
Nyulen further observed that sportspersons are often given preference in various professions as their experiences add value, resilience, endurance, and patience—qualities honed through challenging and intense sporting moments.
Individual awards were presented to I. Phongnyei Phom (Golden Boot – Top Goal Scorer), L. Ongshaü (Best Goalkeeper), Eagle Club, Yaongyimchen ‘B’ (Best Team), and M. Moplong (Player of the Tournament).
The programme was chaired by H. Methongsangba, Associate Pastor, YBA, with invocation by Rev. T. I. Lakba, pastor, NBA. A special song was presented by A. Kupmei, while L. Imtinükshi delivered the vote of thanks. The presentation was made by A. Yingnyülenba, games & sports secretary, YSU.
Commentary throughout the tournament was provided by K. Takangangba and M. Yakang Phom.
