A series of academic, literary and cultural initiatives were recently undertaken by institutions across Nagaland, highlighting student exposure, creative engagement and youth leadership.
City Law College Dimapur visit to Calcutta High Court
On April 2, City Law College Dimapur undertook an educational visit to Calcutta High Court (CHC), the oldest High Court in India.
A total of 26 members including faculty, office staff and students participated in the visit to gain practical exposure to the judicial system. Assisted by Upper Division Assistant, Appellate Side, CHC Kaustav Pal, the students observed live civil and criminal proceedings, gaining first-hand insight into courtroom practices, legal arguments and judicial procedures. The visit was initiated by the Students’ Union under the guidance of Assistant Professor of Law, Abigail Yepthomi.
ABHA orientation at Immanuel College
Red Ribbon Club of Immanuel College, Dimapur, in collaboration with the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM), department of Health & Family Welfare, Kohima, organized an orientation programme on Ayushman Bharat Health Account (ABHA) on March 30 and 31. Resource person Yanger Sanglir, Project Manager (IT), ABDM, explained the mission’s vision of creating a national digital health ecosystem. He highlighted the ABHA number, a 14-digit unique identifier for digital health records. A two-day registration drive followed, during which 407 students registered their ABHA accounts.
Second edition of Unscripted held at Jalukie
The Writers Collective hosted the second edition of “Unscripted” at St. Xavier College, Jalukie, on March 31, featuring elder and storyteller Kevipele Iheilung. Kevipele, who is also the president of Benreu Lui Baudi, dwelt extensively on Naga history of the fifties and sixties, with particular focus on the Zeliang tribe and village formation. Writers Collective general secretary Dr. Vizovono Elizabeth highlighted the initiative’s aim to make Naga literature more inclusive, while president Vishü Rita Krocha remarked that the storyteller had given deeper meaning to oral traditions. Earlier, the welcome address was delivered by Dr. Fr. Francis S. Cheerangal, principal of St. St. Xavier College Jalukie. The programme included poetry presentations by students and was chaired by Namgwangheile, Assistant Professor, Department of History.
FAC conducts 2nd PSA Mock Parliament
The Department of Political Science, Fazl Ali College, organized its 2nd Political Science Association (PSA) Mock Parliament on March 31 under the theme “Democracy in Action through Youth Debating the Future of the Nation.” Special invitee Lanulemba Longchar, president of Ao Kaketshir Mungdang, encouraged students to seize opportunities and step into the role of lawmakers. Students debated issues including AFSPA, Maulana Azad National Fellowship, Women and Child Development, and Uniform Civil Code. The programme was chaired by Dr. Lipokrenla Jamir, HoD, Department of Political Science while the overview of the mock parliament was presented by assoc. professor, Dr. E. Benrithung Patton.
RRC COVSc&AH holds HIV and AIDS awareness

The Red Ribbon Club (RRC) of the College of Veterinary Science & Animal Husbandry (COVSc&AH), CAU Imphal, Jalukie, under the Nagaland State AIDS Control Society (NSACS), organized an HIV and AIDS awareness programme at Ramzie School, Jalukie, on March 30.
The programme was held under the guidance of COVSc&AH dean, Dr. I. Shakuntala, and coordinated by Dr. Amrit Gogoi, assistant professor & nodal officer, RRC, along with Dr. W. Ramdas Singh, assistant professor.
Highlights of the programme included an educational talk and interactive session on HIV and AIDS biology, transmission, prevention, treatment, and stigma reduction. Veterinary students of COVSc&AH presented a creative skit depicting real-life scenarios, social stigma, and the importance of compassionate support for people living with HIV/AIDS.
An awareness quiz was also conducted to reinforce key messages, with winners felicitated with prizes and all participants receiving certificates. The programme concluded with a closing note delivered by Ramzie School administrator, Ling.
DBT Star initiative hosts career planning workshop at Patkai
Department of Chemistry, Patkai Christian College (Autonomous), organized a workshop on April 1 under the DBT Star College Project titled “Skills, Choices and Opportunities: Strategic Career Planning for College Students” at the college conference hall.
Resource person, Prof. Upasana Bora Sinha from the Department of Chemistry, Nagaland University, Lumami, engaged students in introspection with questions such as “What are your goals?” and “Where do you see yourself in the next ten years?” She emphasized the importance of setting clear objectives, prioritizing tasks, and developing skills aligned with career aspirations.
Prof. Sinha also highlighted mental health as a growing concern, stressing the need for mental readiness, clarity of responsibilities, and long-term career planning. She outlined key areas for exploration including career aspirations, effective management, institutional resources, scholarships, research opportunities, and pathways to a Ph.D.
She further introduced essential online platforms for scientific advancement and visibility skills.
A significant portion of the session focused on skill development, advocating continuous self-improvement both professionally and socially, while stressing adaptability and relevance.
She also elaborated on job-specific skill-building for careers in teaching, research, and competitive examinations.
DBCK launches Euphoria Phase 2
Don Bosco College Kohima launched its annual event Euphoria Phase 2 (11th edition, 2025-26) on March 30 under the theme “Beyond the Finish Line.” Commandant, 13th Assam Rifles, Kohima, Manoj Kumar Sankhyann, graced the event as chief guest. He emphasized the role of the annual event in fostering academic excellence, discipline and character development. The inaugural ceremony featured musical renditions, torch-lighting and oath-taking, symbolizing the start of the celebrations. Welcome address was delivered by Fr. Dr. Tious Varghese.
