Department of Employment, Skill Development and Entrepreneurship conducted a valedictory programme for a seven-day basic steel fabrication training under the “PACES – Providing Access to Core Employability Skills” initiative at Wokha Village Community Hall on April 7. Y. Mhonbemo Humtsoe MLA attended the programme as special guest.
A total of 25 trainees from Humtso, Elumyo and Wokha Village participated in the training, which aimed to equip local youth with practical, income-generating skills to promote self-employment and small-scale enterprises.
Addressing the gathering, Humtsoe urged the trainees to embrace teamwork and collective growth, stressing that reliance on government jobs is no longer sustainable. He encouraged youth to explore skill-based livelihoods with confidence and dignity, and advised them to be innovative, disciplined and committed in applying their skills. He further emphasized unity and group efforts, noting that collective initiatives often lead to greater success.
Humtsoe also appealed to counsellors and officials to identify genuinely interested unemployed youth who lack access to such programmes, assuring his support wherever possible.
Speaking on behalf of the training partner, CEO of Zynorique Initiative Society, Richard Belho, said the programme was initiated through the MLA’s efforts and was part of a limited training for 100 participants. He highlighted the income potential in the construction sector and added that advanced-level training with improved machinery could follow.
Additional Director of the department, Zubemo Lotha Tsanglao, informed that Nagaland received 100 training slots across four districts. He noted that the mobile skill morung concept introduced by the department has received appreciation at the national level. He also commended the trainees, particularly the lone female participant, who performed exceptionally well with innovative ideas.
Trainees described the programme as insightful, stating that the hands-on training boosted their confidence in using tools. The lone female trainee shared that although steel fabrication was initially challenging, the training taught her that patience and attentiveness are key. Tools and certificates were distributed to the trainees at the conclusion of the programme.
