Confession by ZUF cadre

DIMAPUR:

NSCN (I-M) has claimed that a cadre of ZUF (Jenchui Group) has joined the mainstream and released a statement purportedly containing his confession regarding a recent armed operation.
In a statement issued by MIP, ‘l/corp.’ Mathiuchun Gangmei, son of Phenrong Gangmei of Rongdai village under Longmei (Noney) district, stated that he had joined NSCN (I-M) on April 6. According to the statement, he alleged that on March 19, 2026, a group of 13 cadres of ZUF (JG) were picked up by Indian security forces from Khoupum and later dropped at Old Kaiphundai along Imphal-Jiribam Road (NH-37) to carry out an attack on an NSCN (I-M) outpost.
He claimed that the attack was carried out in the early hours of March 20, leading to heavy exchange of fire and causing collateral damage to residential properties in Kaiphundai village. He further stated that the group withdrew after a few minutes due to shortage of ammunition.
The statement also listed the names of 10 cadres allegedly involved in the operation. Mathiuchun, in the purported confession, stated that he had initially joined ZUF (JG) with the intention of serving the Naga cause, but later regretted his decision after realising what he described as “sinister plans” leading to bloodshed among Naga groups.
He stated that he decided to leave the organisation and join NSCN (I-M), adding that he did so in good health and with a clear conscience.
