Progressive farmers honored at ATMA Awards

The Exhibition-cum-ATMA Farmers Award 2026 was held at Town Hall, Niuland, recognising progressive farmers, promoting indigenous knowledge, and strengthening rural livelihoods through Self Help Groups (SHGs).
The programme was chaired by ATMA Niuland Deputy Project Director, Avitoli K. Yeptho, with the welcome address delivered by Project Director and District Agriculture Officer (DAO), Niuland.
A key highlight of the event was the release of the Indigenous Technical Knowledge (ITK) booklet by the Project Director & DAO, documenting traditional agricultural tools and techniques, including both commonly used implements and unique practices of the region. The booklet aims to preserve and promote farmer-led innovations.
Farmers Awards were presented to individuals and SHG groups for their contributions to agriculture and allied sectors. Awardees included Kaoto Aye, Kiyeli Yeptho, Hukai, Niketsuno Yeptho and Vikheto Chishi, while group awards were conferred on Nikivipu SHG and Achipi FSG. Each awardee received cash prizes along with certificates of recognition. In addition, maize seeds were distributed to farmers to support the upcoming cropping season and promote improved productivity in the district.
Seven SHG groups participated in the exhibition, showcasing agricultural produce, processed food products, handicrafts and traditional items. A Best Stall Award was also presented.
The programme was attended by officials from various departments, including DFO Dr. Amenla and Assistant Horticulture Officer Alemtilem, along with farmers, stakeholders and SHG members. A total of 94 farmers took part in the event.
