Pochury Students’ Union (PSU) has strongly condemned the incident that occurred on April 9 at the DC Office, Meluri Headquarters, where a staff member allegedly entered the workplace under the influence of alcohol and carried a firearm inside the premises.
In a condemnation note, PSU president Rongley Leyri and general secretary Tsiarhotho Thsangkhure, described the act as “deeply disturbing” and “wholly unacceptable,” noting that such behaviour represented a serious breach of workplace discipline, safety, and ethical conduct. It said consumption of alcohol during office hours undermined the integrity of public service, while possession of a firearm within a government office gravely endangered the lives and security of employees.
The Union stressed that acts of intimidation and misconduct in a professional environment cannot be tolerated under any circumstances, noting that the incident posed a grave threat to the safety, dignity, and psychological well-being of employees, particularly women. PSU cautioned that any recurrence of such incidents would invite firm and appropriate action from the Union in defence of the safety and rights of employees. It further urged competent authorities to initiate immediate legal action against the individual involved and to put strict measures in place to prevent similar incidents in the future.
