Man sentenced to 30 years Rigorous Imprisonment

The principal district & sessions judge/special judge (POCSO), Mokokchung, has convicted one Ram Palat Gupta and sentenced him to 30 years Rigorous Imprisonment (RI).
In a judgment and order passed on April 10, 2026, Judge Victo Sema convicted Ram Palat Gupta under three sections—Section 304 Part II IPC (culpable homicide not amounting to murder), Section 75 of the Juvenile Justice Act (assaults, abandons, abuses, exposes or wilfully neglects a child), and Section 6 of the POCSO Act (aggravated penetrative sexual assault).
The court sentenced the accused to undergo 30 years of RI along with a fine of Rs 5,000.
The case pertained to an incident that occurred on February 16, 2022, at Longnak village under Mokokchung district. The accused allegedly set his wife on fire, leading to her death, and later committed aggravated penetrative sexual assault on his own minor daughter.
The case was investigated by OC WPS Achila, while the state was represented by special public prosecutor/assistant public prosecutor M. Temjenwathy Imsong and B. Langshen.
