Arunachal gov seeks DoNER support in sports, infra

Arunachal Pradesh Governor K T Parnaik on Wednesday met DoNER Minister Jyotiraditya M Scindia in New Delhi and sought his support to ensure growth in the sports infrastructure and agri-horticulture sectors, an official statement said.
Parnaik underlined the immense potential of Arunachal Pradesh’s youth in sports, and stressed the need for modern and accessible facilities to nurture their talent.
He requested the support of the Union Minister for Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) for the development of a dedicated football stadium in the state capital, along with the establishment of integrated sports complexes and sports academies in the western and eastern regions of the state. He also stressed the importance of creating adequate sports infrastructure within higher educational institutions to encourage greater participation and competitive exposure among young athletes, it said.
On the agri-horticulture front, Parnaik highlighted the state’s growing prominence in kiwi cultivation, noting its potential as a unique agricultural strength of the state. The governor further advocated for the establishment of an integrated pack house equipped with solar-based cold storage facilities at the Shergaon horticulture farm in West Kameng district.
Such infrastructure, he said, would significantly improve post-harvest management, reduce losses, and boost farmers’ incomes.
