Continuous heavy rainfall over the past two days (April 19 and 20) has triggered landslides and waterlogging across Wokha district, disrupting normal life and raising concerns over public safety and infrastructure.
In Wokha town, a landslide near the bazaar area damaged the foundation of a house under construction, while several minor landslides were reported in different parts of the town. Poor drainage worsened the situation, with rainwater gushing down staircases at multiple locations.
A staircase near Springdale School witnessed heavy water flow, affecting access for students.
Traffic movement was disrupted along the Sanis-Lakhuti road after landslides near Sunglup village on April 19 night left mud and debris at two points.
In a major setback, the Doyang-Mokokchung road via Pangti village became completely inaccessible due to heavy debris, cutting off connectivity even for pedestrians.
Another landslide near a forest department watchtower in Pangti blocked the main highway, affecting movement to Mokokchung and nearby villages.
Meanwhile, the Baghty River swelled, washing away fish from ponds and causing losses to local fish farmers. Authorities warned that continued rainfall could worsen the situation.
