Deputy Commissioner’s office, Kohima, has issued a clarification regarding the Inner Line Permit (ILP) verification and awareness drive conducted on April 17, following confusion triggered by viral social media posts.
According to ADC Kohima Ruopfükuotuo Noudi, the routine ILP drive was carried out across Kohima town, during which several defaulters were identified and fined under the provisions of BEFR, 1873 in the presence of magistrates. The clarification came after receipts bearing Serial Nos. 1010 and 1011, containing names of defaulters and fine amounts, circulated widely online and led to misunderstanding. The office clarified that receipt 1010 was collectively issued to three individuals with a total fine of Rs. 1,500, while receipt 1011 covered two individuals with a total fine of Rs. 1,000. The individuals were reportedly apprehended at a construction site near Classic Island in Kohima.
Those fined under receipt No. 1010 were identified as Joy Singh (35), Arson Enghi (18), and Welson Teron (26), while those under receipt No. 1011 were Binush Chingthong (19) and Dilip Phangcho (20). All are residents of Karbi Anglong, Assam, working as labourers.
The office further informed that the defaulters have been called for additional verification. It was also revealed that one of them, Welson Teron, admitted to sharing the receipts on Facebook, which contributed to the confusion. Authorities added that an inadvertent printing error on the receipt coupons has been identified, and the affected receipts have been recalled and rectified.
