SAMETI conducts training on IPM

State Agricultural Management and Extension Training Institute (SAMETI) organised a three-day training programme for ATMA functionaries on “Integrated Pest Management (IPM) in Agricultural and Horticultural Crops” from April 15 to 17, 2026.
The inaugural programme was chaired by Tiajungla Longchar, deputy project director, SAMETI. In his address, director SAMETI and principal IETC, Bodevi Shuya, stressed the importance of IPM in agricultural activities and encouraged participants to actively engage in the sessions to pass on the knowledge to farmers.
Resource persons included Dr. Waluniba, assistant professor, and Dr. Hijam Shila Devi, associate professor, Department of Entomology, NU: SAS Medziphema; Dr. Sable Mangesh Gajanan, assistant plant protection officer; and Rameshwar Telangre, plant protection officer, Central Integrated Pest Management Centre (CIPMC), Directorate of Plant Protection, Quarantine & Storage, Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, Government of India.
The training covered topics such as crop-specific IPM in horticultural and agronomical crops, successful bio-control programmes, pest surveillance and monitoring of agro-ecosystems, and practical sessions on the National Pest Surveillance System (NPSS). Participants also undertook field visits to the Insect Museum, Disease Museum, and Institutional Museum at NU: SAS Medziphema.
The valedictory programme was chaired by Tiajungla Longchar, while Bodevi Shuya delivered the concluding remarks. Certificates were awarded to the trainees. Altogether, 27 ATMA functionaries attended the training.
