Aadhaar enrolment for children launched; IT equipment distributed

The Office of the District Economics & Statistics Officer, Kohima, organised a programme on April 22 for distribution of IT equipment and launching of Aadhaar enrolment for children (0–5 years) at its office premises.
According to DIPR report, secretary & Chief Registrar of Births & Deaths, Akunu Meyase, handed over IT equipment to representatives of selected villages and underscored the importance of accurate and timely registration of vital events. She reminded that since 2022, registration has been mandated online, with the goal of achieving a fully digital system. Stressing that birth and death records are critical legal documents establishing identity, she cautioned that absence of such records could result in lack of legal recognition.
Meyase further highlighted that reliable civil registration data forms the basis for government planning and policy-making. As part of the programme, computers, printers and internet connectivity support were distributed to 26 villages in Kohima district and 10 villages in Tseminyu district.
Director & Additional Chief Registrar of Births & Deaths, Nagaland, Neidilhou Keditsu, said the initiative aimed to strengthen civil registration in the state. He noted that while Nagaland adopted online registration in 2022, registration of deaths remains low and called for collective efforts to achieve universal coverage. He also elaborated on Aadhaar enrolment for children, stressing the need for harmonisation in data collection. DC Kohima, B. Henok Buchem, who also serves as District Chief Registrar of Births & Deaths, formally launched Aadhaar enrolment for children (0–5 years). He emphasised that governance begins at the village level and urged village leaders to ensure proper enumeration during the upcoming census. He reminded that Aadhaar has become mandatory for availing government schemes and welfare benefits, and called upon leaders to create awareness in their communities. Chairing the programme, District Economics & Statistics Officer, Kohima, Theyieneinuo Belho, highlighted the importance of strengthening registration systems at the grassroots.
The programme was held under the theme “Secure Your Child’s Future with Aadhaar – Baal Aadhaar: A Unique Identity for Every Little One.”
