Lotha Youth Hoho declares Wokha ‘Drug-Free District’

Expressing serious concern over the growing menace of drug abuse and illegal substance trafficking in Wokha district and in order to combat it, Lotha Youth Hoho has officially declared the district a “Drug-Free District.”
In a circular issued by president Mharhomo V. Murry and general secretary Wopenthung L. Ezung, the organisation announced a complete ban on the sale, possession and distribution of all illegal drugs and narcotic substances within Wokha town jurisdiction with effect from May 1, 2026.
LYH said it was deeply disturbed by reports claiming Wokha has the highest number of drug users in the state.
It noted that despite earlier awareness drives and public campaigns, anti-social activities linked to drugs continue to threaten the social fabric of the district and the future of its younger generation.
To implement the decision, LYH said a special task force would be formed in coordination with law enforcement agencies. The team will conduct routine surveillance, surprise raids and patrols.
It warned that violators would face a spot fine of Rs.50,000 and permanent expulsion from the district.
