Naga Village Guard Killed in Ukhrul Ambush

A 29-year-old Naga Village Guards (NVG) member was killed in an ambush in Manipur’s Ukhrul district early Friday, April 24. The victim, identified as Horshokmi Jamang of Chatric Khullen village in Kamjong district, was attacked near Sinakeithei while on routine patrol. According to Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL), the assault occurred along the sensitive Sirarakhong–Sinakeithei route, an area long troubled by armed activity.

TNL said the patrol was targeted by suspected Kuki militants, including cadres under Suspension of Operations (SoO) arrangements, along with other armed groups. Jamang died instantly. The organisation described his death as a sacrifice in defense of village land and community interests, noting his active role in safeguarding the area. Extending condolences to his family, TNL raised alarm over the deteriorating security environment, citing repeated attacks on civilians and patrol units. Ukhrul and adjoining districts, it stressed, remain prone to flare-ups, with patrol routes and village peripheries especially vulnerable.
