Showing perseverance and academic excellence in the face of financial challenges, Andrew Billung of St John’s Higher Secondary School, Diphupar ‘B’, has secured distinction in all subjects in the recent HSLC examinations, earning the 20th rank.
Andrew, who assists his mother at their small shop to support the family, said he studied two to three hours daily and often revised Mathematics—his favourite subject—while at the shop. His father has not been supporting the family for the past few years, leaving them dependent on the shop and bank loans to sustain education.
Acknowledging the support of his school, Andrew said the principal had granted him a 50 percent fee concession, enabling him to continue his studies. He now hopes to avail scholarships to pursue higher education.
Looking ahead, Andrew plans to opt for the Science stream and prepare for JEE Advanced with the goal of becoming an engineer specializing in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning.
He is considering institutions such as Unity and Holy Cross Higher Secondary School.
Apart from academics, Andrew has actively participated in science fairs and exhibitions, securing first position at a district-level event and representing Nagaland at the “Eureka” programme in Shillong.
His achievement stands as a testament to determination, disciplined study, and institutional support, setting him on course for a promising future.
