In a shocking case that has raised serious concerns about law enforcement accountability, Jamui district police arrested four personnel of the Nawada Excise Department – including ASIs Sujit Kumar and Dilip Kumar, along with two Home Guard jawans – for their alleged involvement in kidnapping and extortion. The arrests followed a complaint filed by Pintu Kumar, whose brother Santosh Kumar was detained during a vehicle checking drive at Mahuliya Tand under Kauakol police station. Santosh informed his family that he had been kidnapped and demanded ₹5 lakh for his release. Acting swiftly, Jamui police registered Case No. 193/26, conducted raids, and recovered ₹1.5 lakh ransom money from ASI Dilip Kumar’s residence, along with seizing the Creta car used in the incident.
According to officials, the accused intercepted Santosh Kumar and two others traveling in a Creta car on Thursday night, allegedly in an intoxicated state, and took them to the Pakribarawan excise police station. The family later paid ₹1.5 lakh at the station for the release of the vehicle, exposing the extortion racket. All four accused were arrested and brought to Jamui police station for further legal action under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The incident has sparked outrage across Bihar, highlighting the erosion of public trust when police personnel themselves are implicated in crimes such as kidnapping and extortion. Authorities have vowed a thorough investigation to restore confidence in law and order.
