Educational institutions across Nagaland recently undertook a series of academic, cultural, and outreach programmes, reflecting their commitment to community engagement, professional development, and indigenous knowledge.
At Jorhat, Assam, Fazl Ali College (FAC), Mokokchung, and CKB Commerce College, Jorhat, formalised an Institutional Partnership Agreement for Academic Cooperation (IPAAC) on April 23. The five-year agreement, with provisions for renewal, aligns with the vision of the NEP 2020 and seeks to enhance quality assurance, promote academic linkages, and build institutional capacity.
Guest of honour, principal of Fazl Ali College, I. Wati Imchen, highlighted the importance of such collaborations in fostering innovation, research, and holistic development. He also noted the cordial educational ties historically shared between Jorhat and Mokokchung. Vice principal of CKB Commerce College, Sarat Borah, presented an overview of the institution, while FAC IQAC Coordinator Bendangsenla introduced Fazl Ali College. Explaining the objectives, IQAC Coordinator of CKB Commerce College, Kironmoy Chetia, said the partnership would focus on joint seminars, workshops, conferences, faculty and student exchanges, collaborative research, and sharing of best practices. The cooperation will cover natural sciences, social sciences, humanities, and interdisciplinary studies, with emphasis on faculty development, quality assurance, ICT-based learning, and community engagement. The signing ceremony began with a welcome address by CKB Commerce College principal, Dr. Breez Mohan Hazarika.
At Nagaland University, the Tribal Research Centre (TRC) organised the Nagaland premiere screening of the documentary “A Sacred Place” on April 23. Directed by Prof. Dolly Kikon, the film explores the sacred landscapes of Makhel through visual ethnography and oral traditions. Assistant Professor Dr. Yamsani Srikanth welcomed participants and introduced the filmmaking process, while Dr. Rongsenzulu Jamir of the University of Hyderabad led the post-screening discussion. Prof. Kikon emphasised collaborative knowledge production rooted in indigenous storytelling and reciprocity, urging scholars to contribute meaningfully to their communities. On April 24, Nagaland University also hosted representatives from Uniqlo India, including Chief Operating Officer Kenji Inoue, Store HR Manager Kanta Nagasaki, and General Manager (Human Resources) Kamlika Deka. Welcomed by Placement Cell convenor Prof. Lungsang Zeliang, the delegation interacted with faculty and administration before addressing students of management, commerce, and Japanese studies.
In Dimapur, Department of English, Dimapur Government College, organised an extension activity on April 24 at the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA), PM SHRI Government High School, and Burma Camp Bazaar, Dimapur, under the theme “This is Their Home Too: Educate & Advocate for Animal Rights.” The initiative was led by faculty members along with students from the 2nd, 4th, and 8th semesters.
The formal session was chaired by Assistant Professor Shuiching Konyak. SPCA Dimapur executive secretary, Marianne Rao, delivered the welcome address, appreciating the initiative and highlighting the importance of collective efforts in animal welfare. Student representatives Hojila S and Mhao Yanthan spoke on the role of youth in advocating animal rights and fostering empathy.
SPCA vice president, Joseph Lemtur, expressed concern over the limited number of SPCA centres in Nagaland, urging students to cooperate with organisations and promote humane practices. Member and spokesperson, Eunice Lotha, linked the initiative to the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which emphasises empathy and compassion as essential values for holistic development.
Following the session, students cleaned the SPCA premises, visited the Veterinary Hospital for practical exposure, and extended outreach to PM SHRI Government High School and Burma Camp Bazaar, distributing pamphlets and raising awareness on animal welfare.
