BJP’s Representation in Rajya Sabha Grows After Defections from AAP

The political landscape in the Rajya Sabha has shifted significantly following the latest announcements from the Rajya Sabha regarding party positions. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has seen its representation rise from 107 to 113 members after seven members of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) announced their merger with the BJP.

The defectors, which include notable figures like Raghav Chadha and Swati Maliwal, have cited their dissatisfaction with AAP as a primary reason for their move. They collectively represented a two-thirds majority of AAP’s Rajya Sabha members, resulting in a drastic reduction of AAP’s presence, now down to just three members.

In a recent social media video, Chadha expressed that AAP had transformed into a “toxic” environment and shared his personal struggles within the party. He conveyed his decision was not made lightly, emphasizing it was essential for him to align with a political group that reflects his dedication to serving the nation effectively. His appeal for support came amid a backlash from the youth, illustrated by a significant loss of social media followers.

This merger has not only impacted AAP’s representation but also shows a significant consolidation of power for the BJP in the upper house of Parliament, raising questions about the future of political affiliations in India.
