A tragic incident has emerged from Mumbai where a 63-year-old man, Josef Thomas Coelho, has been arrested for the alleged murder of his 80-year-old sister, Blanche Sequeira. This shocking event unfolded at their residence in Marol, Andheri, amid a family dispute that escalated into an argument on the night of January 10. The discord between the siblings led to a fatal confrontation that ended in Sequeira’s untimely death.
Following the incident, Coelho attempted to conceal the crime by disposing of his sister’s body in a drainage line near Mumbai International Airport. On January 10, he fled the scene but later filed a false missing person complaint at the Andheri police station, aiming to mislead law enforcement authorities. The case took a turn on April 24, when workers from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) uncovered the body during routine cleaning of a drain.
Initial attempts to identify the body were hampered due to severe decomposition, but investigators eventually recognized the victim through silver jewelry that she wore. This was corroborated against photographs previously submitted by Coelho when he claimed his sister was missing. After thorough questioning, Coelho confessed to pushing Sequeira during their argument, which inadvertently led to her death. Additionally, his wife, Maria, has been implicated and arrested for her alleged involvement in covering up this tragic event.
