Longkhum Students’ Union (LSU) has expressed concern over the prolonged closure of Government High School (GHS), Longkhum under Mokokchung district, which has remained shut since February 27, 2026, due to a dispute between landowners and the school authority over the appointment of a Multi-Tasking Staff (MTS).
In a letter addressed to the principal director school education, LSU president Moachiba and general secretary Rongjensangla stated that the closure has caused immense hardship to students, parents, and the entire community.
LSU highlighted that students have been deprived of a regular classroom environment for nearly two months, severely disrupting their academic progress.
The union further said that prolonged closure has also caused psychological and emotional distress to parents and community members, putting the future of the students at stake.
LSU has, therefore, appealed to the school education department to intervene immediately and facilitate the reopening of the school at the earliest so students could resume their studies without further delay.
LSU expressed hope that urgent and amicable action would be implemented for the benefit of all.
