Table Top Exercises for NEPEx 2026 conducted across Nagaland

In preparation for the Nagaland Emergency Preparedness Exercise (NEPEx) 2026, district administrations across the state conducted Table Top Exercises (TTEx) on April 29 to assess disaster preparedness, strengthen coordination and finalize arrangements for the statewide mock drill scheduled on April 30.

DIMAPUR

In Dimapur, the exercise was held at the DC’s Conference Hall, Purana Bazar, organized by the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA). Officials designated as observers, site in-charges and volunteers deliberated on response strategies, inter-agency coordination, communication systems and stakeholder responsibilities. Key locations identified for the mock drill included DC Office (Staging Area), Government Higher Secondary School Purana Bazar, Hollotoli School Naharbari, Westside Store Darogapathar, Indian Oil Kevijau and PHC Purana Bazar.
The exercise also reviewed the tentative sequence of “Operation Night Guard/Air Raid” simulation, highlighting the need for timely response and efficient resource mobilization.
Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner and chairman District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) Dimapur, Dr. Tinojongshi Chang, has informed that Operation Night Guard—a civil defence air raid/blackout exercise—will be conducted on April 30, 2026, from 6:30 p.m. onwards.
As part of the exercise, a blackout of the Purana Bazaar feeder will be carried out between 6:30 p.m. and 6:45 p.m. Vehicular movement along the stretch of East Dimapur Town Council and the DC’s Office, Purana Bazaar, will also be temporarily halted during the exercise. The DC has requested all concerned to take note and extend necessary cooperation.

LONGLENG

In Longleng, the exercise was conducted at the DPDB Hall under DC & DDMA chairman W. Manpai Phom. He stressed that the enhanced scale of this year’s exercise is an opportunity to identify gaps in response mechanisms. Four locations have been identified for the April 30 drill. Additional SP Hiatwa Iralu briefed on IRS structure, roles of incident commanders, operations, planning and logistics sections, and urged departments to simulate realistic response systems.

NOKLAK

In Noklak, the TTEx was held at the SP’s Conference Hall under the chairmanship of DC & DDMA chairman P. Mono Khiamniungan.
He elaborated on IRS roles and responsibilities, while ADC Relise Sangtam emphasized logistical arrangements. DPA Tanghiu conducted group briefings on documentation and reporting procedures, and OC Wireless Sulem demonstrated communication sets for effective coordination.

ZUNHEBOTO

In Zunheboto, DC Dharam Raj, along with officials, attended a video conference at the State Emergency Operation Centre, Kohima.
The exercise, organized by Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA) under the Home Department with support from National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), focused on earthquake and extreme weather scenarios to strengthen state preparedness and emergency response.

TSEMINYU

In Tseminyu, the TTEx was held at the DC’s Conference Hall. Resource inventory, incident scenarios and IRS roles were discussed, with briefings on procedures for the April 30 mock drill.
Across districts, officials reiterated that NEPEx 2026, organized by the Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA) with support from the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), aims to enhance disaster preparedness, resilience and inter-agency coordination. The exercises emphasized realistic simulation, effective communication, resource mobilization and public safety, ensuring that all stakeholders are prepared to respond to large-scale emergencies.

PEREN

In Peren, the TTEx was conducted at the DC’s Conference Hall under the chairmanship of DC & DDMA chairman Hiazu Meru.
He briefed on the Incident Response System (IRS) and emphasized coordination among departments.
Unlike previous years, this year’s drill will be held at two locations—Peren Town and Jalukie Town—based on a 7.7 magnitude earthquake scenario with its epicentre at Piphema.
A night operation component has also been introduced. SDO (Civil) Sentilong Ozukum presented the scenario, while District Commandant Home Guards & Civil Defence, Vingutuo Angami, demonstrated an “Air Raid” simulation under Operation Night Guard. DPA Kedigong briefed on operational sequences, and OC Wireless showcased communication systems.
